Can I begin by thanking every member of staff, pupil, parent or grandparent who were involved in the Advent service at St Oswald’s on Wednesday or the senior citizens’ Christmas party on Friday.  Both events were fantastic and show the tremendous spirit that exists in the school community.

Miss Gallagher told me that Aleyah Stockley, Alice Ward (7H) and Mrs Crompton raised £90.50 by selling candy canes to pupils and staff in school. Alice and Aleyah have work incredibly hard organising the event and also gave up their break and lunchtimes to ensure maximum sales and a smooth delivery process. All of 7H have supported Alice and Aleyah with this, from helping with the deliveries, to donating candy canes. Mrs Crompton commented that we have such a caring school community, who are happy to spend their money sending each other words of kindness and support throughout the festive period.  Form 7O held a cake sale on Friday, raising over £54 for CAFOD - a fantastic achievement, displaying excellent team work.  Well done Year 7, and in particular 7H and 7O!

This week Ashling Toner in 7A, was the latest pupil to achieve the Library Bronze Reader Award.  The ‘Achievement Point’ leader board has been fiercely contested this term, and at the end of it, Ruby Meyrick 7H came 2nd with a brilliant 108, and joint first were Lily Webster 7S and Heidi Doherty 7H with an incredible 120 points each! 7H won the form competition, with an amazing 1514 points in total.  Miss Mahon’s 7C won the attendance leader board with a brilliant 98.18% andMr Taylor’s form 7C topped the punctuality leader board with only six ‘lates’ between the entire form!  With over 70 pupils achieving 100% attendance this term, there are too many to mention individually, but I want to pass on my congratulations to every pupil for what is a truly fantastic achievement.  This first term has been absolutely outstanding for Year 7 with so many pupils making brilliant contributions to the life of the school - please keep it up next term!

Mr Cassidy inform me that Clara Gibbons in 10L2, produced a fantastic structure of the earth model for homework. She was awarded a top geologist badge for her efforts! Well done Clara.

On Monday 7th December Mr Reardon’s form (7C) held their form Mass. They wrote their own bidding prayers and focused on friendship and those who may be struggling at this time of year. They all took part in some way; almost all of them volunteered to read and they also spent time in music, practising the hymns. All were impeccably behaved and it made for a lovely Mass.  Well done 7C!

On Tuesday 8th December, Mrs Jones informed me that her Year 8 class had created some exquisite mini-books, writing short stories to learn about how to identify subject and verb.  All were good, but special merit to Amber Pimblett, Matthew Winders, Adam Featherstone and Ellie Pilkington, whose books where truly outstanding.  I was even lucky enough to receive Amber's as a present!

Miss Moran and Mr O’Callaghan took eighteen, Year 8 pupils from science club, to the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Christmas ‘Flash Bang Show’ on Thursday 10th December. The show consisted of explosive demonstrations, including methane rockets, which were all highly engaging and entertaining for all involved. All the pupils made the school very proud with their model behaviour, manners and enthusiasm throughout the event. Well done to all.
