On Wednesday evening we held our annual Reconciliation Service in the school hall - and what a fantastic evening it turned out to be! We had the story of the prodigal daughter, readings, drama and video clips to help us all reflect and examine our conscience during this time of Lent.  The pupils and staff were brilliant; a great way to enter into Holy Week.

Miss Clappison told me that Harry Wallwork in Year 8 wrote a fantastic piece of work in Spanish about his house, all in his own time, and even translated it into English! See work attached.

Mrs McLoughlin told me that after running the ‘Better Reading’ programme with Year 10 mentors and Year 7 mentees since October, it has now come to an end. She asked all pupils involved to give feedback on their experiences.  Having read through them I know what a valuable, worthwhile and transformational experience this has been for both sets of pupils - thank you to all involved.
On Wednesday it was the UKMT Team Maths Challenge. Mr Tsang took four pupils, James Forshaw (Y9), Olivia Harrald (Y9), Mathew Eaves (Y8) and Matthew Hill (Y8) to St Edwards College in Liverpool for the regional finals. The pupils have been practising for a few weeks at lunchtimes but the competition itself was a completely different matter! There were 35 other schools at the finals and there were four different rounds throughout the day. At the end of the day, scores were tallied and added together and we came 2nd! Blue Coats school narrowly beat us to first place (a single point separated us).  Finishing second is our highest-ever achievement there and leaves us in with a chance of qualifying for the national finals.  Fantastic work and well done!

Miss Gallagher told me Year 7 continue to perform extremely well.  This week’s achievement points winners were Katie Murray and Joshua McHenry. In 2nd place were Olivia Williams and Aedan Hambleton and in 3rd place were Caitlin Morgan, Lily Webster, Mary-Jane McLaughlin and Tyler Jones.  Jodie Latham 7L achieved the numeracy bronze award, Katie Davies 7M and Caitlin Morgan 7L achieved the numeracy silver award.  Well done to all pupils on their outstanding achievements this week.
