It has been another brilliant two weeks in school.  Our Open Evening last Wednesday was one of our most successful ever with record numbers of parents coming to look around the school.  I must state the atmosphere was really special and I received lots of lovely comments from parents on the evening and by email afterwards to tell me how impressed they had been with the school and how happy the staff and pupils were.  I consider this as the highest of accolades, as this is exactly what we are trying to achieve!

Thank you so much to the Y7 parents who attended our Welcome Mass in the school sports hall - it was a lovely occasion and the pupils conducted themselves superbly!  It must have been a record for the number of parents who attended the Mass and we all really appreciate your support; thank you.

Year 7 pupils continue to impress us!

This week Mrs Outterside and Mrs Alvarado launched the Year 7 Initiative ‘Going the Extra Mile’ in the Year 7 assembly. The Extra Mile gives all pupils the chance to get involved in a wide range of fun and educational experiences, develop new skills, help people less fortunate than yourself and to meet and work alongside different pupils, teachers and other staff than you would in a normal school day. Please take a look at further information on the school website https://www.arrowsmith.wigan.sch.uk/students/enrichment/performing-arts-group and GO THE EXTRA MILE!

Our Year 7 football team continued the good sporting week for St Edmund Arrowsmith with a 2 - 0 home win in the English Schools Cup! The goals came from Dylan (7A) and Harry (7O), well done boys! Thank you to all players, supporters and staff who attended.

Our Year 7 rugby team were unlucky on Thursday, coming off 2nd best to a very strong Standish High School side. The boys still go through to the North West Counties competition as Wigan’s number four! Once again, thank you to all players, supporters and staff who attended.

Mrs Duncan shared the following photos with me of Y7 pupils burning foods to find out their energy content, it’s a good job I wasn’t there as I probably would’ve eaten the food before they got the chance to burn it!!

Mr Linton told me that the top Historians for this week are:

Harry - 10W, for an excellent approach to his fact test revision

Amelia - 9L, for superb enthusiasm in her lesson on the Treaty of Versailles

Annie - 9S, for her contributions and answers in the Treaty of Versailles sources lesson

Finally, Mr Cassidy shared a video with me of the Y11 pupils learning about the activation of energy – very impressive!
