Friday 12th June
As we approach the end of the school year I would like to share with you some fantastic success stories before we finish. First of all we held our Year 11 Leavers' Ball - Hurlston Hall, Ormskirk last Friday night. It was brilliant to see the Class of 2019 looking so wonderful, happy and relaxed after what had been a stressful GCSE exam series. I cannot tell you how proud I am of these young people, they are destined to make a real impact in the world with their kindness, honesty, empathy and caring spirits. Special thanks to Mrs Doolan and Miss Hampson for organising the whole event so well and to our surprise guest Mr Jones, who had gone 48 hours without sleep, flying in from the UAE especially to make it in time!
We had our three-day induction programme with our Year 6 pupils this week and it went especially well, all the staff are very impressed with the pupil’s attitudes and desire to do well, it all bodes extremely well for September. On Tuesday we had our annual ‘Let’s Sing’ concert at Robin Park and it was one of our best ever! The Year 6 pupils, our school choirs and the staff choir were all amazing and we received the usual fantastic support from our extended families, I could not have been a prouder Headteacher driving home!
There have also been some exceptional pupil achievements this week, Lily Webster and Charlotte Atherton have represented the North-West for rugby league’s England talent pathway against Hull, West Yorkshire and Central Yorkshire. They have made the school (and Ashton Bears) very proud!
Mrs Davies has told me that Year 8 have been conducting a mini project to inform 'grand designs' of the best insulator material for a home this half term and the work has been outstanding. Congratulations Year 8 please keep up the good work. Special mention to Bethany Martin 8B whose work fantastic, she hit all 44 criteria check points on her practical assessment!!
Mrs Ainsworth told me that she had watched a fantastic presentation delivered by Ruby Allen-Brown and Lily Vernon-Cole in her 8X1 Geography class. A couple of weeks ago, they asked if they could do a finale on the topics we have studied this year, their enthusiasm for the subject has certainly shone through and the time and effort they have put into this work is incredible. Their presentation was fun and included home-made videos, interesting facts, music, dress-up and a 16 page script as well as a blooper reel at the end, finished with a quiz. It was just fantastic!!! Wow Ruby and Lily this is truly outstanding work!
