Our Y9 football team faced Formby High School last night in a closely contested English Cup 4th-round tie that had everything—early goals, tactical changes, extra time drama, and the heartbreak of penalties.
The game started brightly for SEA, taking the lead in the 4th minute through Adam K, who finished clinically to put Eddies ahead. Formby HS responded with a cleverly worked free kick to level the score, and from that point, they controlled large parts of the first half. At half-time (1-1), Mr Taylor made bold changes to both formation and personnel, and the impact was immediate.
SEA dominated the 2nd half, with Jaime K putting in a commanding performance in midfield, breaking up play and driving the team forward. The pressure paid off when Aiden M found the net to restore Eddies’ lead. Formby HS, fought back however and equalised late-on, taking the tie into extra time, where neither side could break the deadlock. The match was ultimately decided by penalties, and despite a valiant effort, St Edmund’s fell short, losing 4 - 2 in the shoot out.
While the result was disappointing, the performance, especially in the 2nd half, was full of character. With a full squad, things might have been different, but the team can hold their heads high after a spirited display.
Congratulations to the team! Keep enjoying the sport you love - that's the big win! #INSPIRATIONALACTIONS
