Our Y9 girls came out victorious in yesterday's cup final

 

The game got off to an excellent start, with Leona H scoring in the opening set. However, it quickly became a closely contested affair, with both teams trading tries throughout the first half.
Our girls looked dangerous in attack from the outset and soon built a 14–6 lead, appearing to be the favourites. However, St John Fisher responded just before half-time with a try of their own, narrowing the gap to 14–12. As the half drew to a close, our team looked tired and deflated after a demanding opening period.
The half-time team talk clearly had the desired effect, as the girls came out strongly and extended their lead to 18–12. Unfortunately, fatigue began to take its toll early in the second half, and SJF capitalised with two converted tries in quick succession to move 24–18 ahead, shifting the momentum firmly in their favour.
With around 10 minutes remaining, a brilliantly worked Eddies try brought the score back to 22–24, keeping the game within reach. Conversions proved costly throughout the match, with only one successful kick from several attempts.
 
The girls showed tremendous grit, determination and resilience. Defence had been their biggest challenge for much of the game, but with less than 10 minutes remaining they dug deep, forced an error through excellent defensive pressure, and scored in the following set to regain the lead at 26–24 with eight minutes left to play.
The final eight minutes showcased the team's outstanding character and spirit. Once again, superb defence forced another SJF error, and that mistake ultimately sealed the victory.

At the final whistle, it was clear just how much this victory meant to the players and how hard they had fought to bring the trophy home. Their joy, pride and relief were written all over their faces.
This remarkable team remains undefeated and can now proudly call themselves champions. A truly special achievement and a moment they will never forget.
