St Edmund Arrowsmith Pupils Take Part in

Sir David Amess Children’s Parliament Commemorative Debate

Pupils and staff from St Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic High School were delighted to take part in the Sir David Amess Children’s Parliament Commemorative Debate at Victoria Tower Gardens on Thursday 15th October.
After months of preparation, our Child MPs joined children, teachers and accompanying adults from across the country for this special occasion, celebrating the legacy of Sir David Amess and providing young people with a national platform to share their views and have their voices heard.
During the visit, our pupils and staff had the opportunity to meet leaders from the various political parties, gaining a valuable insight into politics, leadership and democracy. They were also warmly welcomed by the Prime Minister,  Andy Burnham.
The event provided a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to engage with important national issues, develop their understanding of democracy and experience first-hand how young people can contribute to shaping the future of our country.
We are incredibly proud of our pupils for representing St Edmund Arrowsmith so positively and for embracing this memorable opportunity to make their voices heard on a national stage.
Mrs Paul, Head of Personal Development Curriculum (PDC), said:
“Taking part in the Sir David Amess Children’s Parliament Commemorative Debate was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to experience democracy in action. They were able to meet political leaders, learn more about how our country is governed and understand the importance of having their voices heard. We are incredibly proud of the way our Child MPs represented St Edmund Arrowsmith and embraced this unique and memorable experience. It was a wonderful opportunity to develop their confidence, broaden their understanding of current affairs and inspire them to become active, informed citizens of the future.”
