Year 10 Rugby Team Storm into Wigan Cup Final
Our Year 10 Rugby Team have secured their place in the Wigan Cup Final following a superb 14-10 semi-final victory over Deanery High School in exceptionally challenging conditions.
With torrential rain and strong winds throughout the match, this was always going to be a test of determination, discipline and resilience. Our pupils rose brilliantly to the challenge, producing a performance full of character when it mattered most.
St Edmund Arrowsmith made the perfect start. A clever kick into the corner from Alfie S put Deanery under immediate pressure, allowing Jack G to power his way over for the opening try. Josh added the conversion to establish an early 6-0 lead.
Deanery responded before half-time to level the scores at 6-6, setting up a tense and fiercely contested second half. With the difficult conditions making attacking rugby challenging, every opportunity became increasingly important. Arrowsmith edged back in front through a penalty to make it 8-6.
The decisive moment arrived midway through the second half when Kian H produced a powerful run through the heart of the Deanery defence, taking his team deep into opposition territory. The resulting pressure created the opportunity for Max H to cross for a crucial try. The successful conversion extended the lead to 14-6.
Deanery continued to battle and scored late on to reduce the deficit, but St Edmund Arrowsmith stood firm. The final whistle confirmed a fantastic 14-10 victory and, more importantly, a deserved place in the Wigan Cup Final.
It was an outstanding team performance that demonstrated the resilience, character and work ethic of the whole squad. Every player contributed and showed tremendous determination in extremely difficult conditions.
Congratulations to the whole team on a fantastic achievement, and we wish them every success in the Wigan Cup Final!
