On Tuesday 9th February, some of our students decided to participate in the BBC Practice Day. We got to experience a “day in the life” of a reporter first-hand: organising interviews, filming, taking plenty of photos and so much more!

At the start of the day, each group chose a story they were particularly interested in. We had articles on the Olympics, Pancake Day and many others. People then decided what their role in their groups would be, with jobs such as photography, technology and so on. With everything prepared, the groups set off in search of interviews, stories or the perfect picture to go along with their reports. Some strived to complete their story before the 11:30 deadline!

Along the way, certain groups and individuals received pleasant surprises concerning their articles or projects. One group got a call from the BBC saying they were very interested in their project! This, of course, was due to everyone’s hard work and commitment that we achieved such opportunities that day.

Considering we only had a day to put together a successful story (and we achieved so much!), I believed that the BBC Practice Day was productive, exciting and – most of all – fun; I’m sure that everyone who participate would agree! We look forward to any further opportunities we may have in the future.
