Faith in Action Award:

You will be given the opportunity to get involved with an exciting new Arch-diocesan led award aimed at young people who go the extra mile towards helping others. The award challenges, encourages, guides and rewards those people who are involved with charitable works, their own parishes, the schools liturgy planning and many more! The award runs similarly to the Duke of Edinburgh Award in that pupils must complete specific hours of volunteering and helping out to achieve a certain award level. The award is a fun and creative way of making an impact in our school and in the local community and students always have a fantastic time working on their hours of service together. If you want to take part, there are weekly break time meetings in the Chapel.  Ask Maria for details.

Chaplaincy Group:

There are a number of after school activities for you to get involved with. All students are welcome so it does not matter which year group you belong to.  These run every night after school for one hour except Fridays when the meeting lasts half an hour. Clubs include: Knitting club – where you will knit and sew items for various different charities (blankets for Refugee camps, blankets, hats and scarves for babies in pre-natal units, etc). You can also join the  Sewing Club – where we are currently sewing love hearts to give to people in order to raise awareness of Pope Francis’ messages from Laudato Si’ – Care for our Common Home. You can hone your debating skills at the Debate club aimed at pupils in Y10 & 11 where you will be able to discuss various religious topics in a controlled way and look at the various different points of view of many ethical issues and focus on the Catholic Church Teachings that respond to such debates. Another skill you can learn is Bible Journaling – where pupils can bring their own journaling Bibles or can use the resources printed in school to do some ‘Lectio Divina’.   You can study specific passages from scripture, discuss them, reflect on them, meditate on them and draw and doodle your personal thoughts in your journals. There is also opportunity for prayer and meditation evenings which run once a half term – this is where the Chapel is transformed into a tranquil space with cushions and soft lighting and music and staff and students can join us for quiet reflection with meditations on scripture and silent prayer.

Eucharistic Minister Training:

If you want to serve the school community, the chaplaincy offers pupils in Y10 & 11 the chance to train as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. This usually involves a retreat day to the Animate Youth Centre at St Mary’s Lowe House where pupils learn the importance of the role and study more about the Blessed Sacrament in preparation for their honourable role. We then have a commissioning Service in one of our School Masses where the ministers are invited up and formally asked by our Parish Priest Fr John Gorman to fulfil their role as Ministers.

Lourdes Youth Pilgrimage:

If you are in Y10 or 11, you will have the chance to apply for the annual Liverpool Arch-diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes – where young people from across the arch-diocese come together to form ‘coaches’ that travel to Lourdes to help the sick and elderly pilgrims from our local parishes in the Lourdes Saint Frai hospital. The pilgrimage is a fantastic opportunity for you to volunteer to help those in need but is also a pilgrimage for yourselves too as there will be plenty of time to reflect and go to Mass daily and spend time learning about your faith in the many Catechesis sessions that will be planned with the coach leaders. Although the responsibility of funding for the pilgrimage relies solely on the parents of the pupils going, the Chaplaincy group can guide and assist in any fundraising activities and events that pupils may wish to run in order to help fund their pilgrimage.

Masses and Services throughout the year:

You will have plenty of opportunities to deepen your faith because the Chaplaincy provides a number of Masses and Services throughout the Liturgical year to reflect the seasons and special occasions within our school. These include:
