Showstoppers 2 was quite a hectic experience for everyone involved, including our parents, however in the end I think it’s safe to say it turned out very well!

Cast of AnnieWe started rehearsing for Showstoppers 2 during the end of the last school year (around May/June) and when we were told we would be doing Showstoppers 2 everyone in Year 11 (including me) cheered because of how big a success we knew Showstoppers 1 was.  We were so excited when we discovered which songs would be included: Joseph; Cats; Annie; Sound of Music; Grease; Hairspray and We Will Rock You. There was an extra loud cheer for Grease and Hairspray because they are such well-known musicals.

We began by practising songs which we would all be involved in and attempting to come up with some form of movement to get from one scene to another - the simple stuff - or so we thought! We knew theLily Webb in Sound of Music tunes to most songs, however some of us had to learn harmonies, so the tunes were altered to accommodate this.

Auditioning must have been extremely difficult for the teachers; deciding whose voice complemented each song the best and who would act a certain character well. Overall, I think all the cast will agree that the teachers did a superb job of casting!

We were given a script for our individual musicals and over the summer our “homework” was to learn our lines and the lyrics to songs. This is where the show started to have its ups and downs. Several setbacks meant that we had to rehearse even harder, including on Saturdays.

However, despite how much anxiety the show caused behind the scenes, overall I think we can all safely say it was a major success! We were delighted when we could see the teachers with beaming smiles on their faces Cast of Greasebecause they were so proud of us. Parents applauded as they watched their children take their final bows before the curtain closed, and pupils (mainly Year 11s) cried because the show was over. Even though we complain at the time, we all love the shows because they are so incredible!

“I didn’t know the school has such incredible talent- singing, dancing and acting!”

“The show was incredible! An absolute success!”

“What a delight it was to watch such an incredible performance - and from our own pupils!”

“Hilarious moments and some very serious moments, a roller-coaster of emotions!”

We saw some amazing talent this year, with some new faces who we hope will be involved in next year’s production!  Sadly, some very familiar faces we have seen the last of, because the Year 11s willCast of Grease unfortunately have left by the time the next production is rehearsing.

As a Year 11 pupil, I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the teachers and pupils who were involved, and I know I speak on behalf of all the Year 11s when I say I will be coming to watch next year’s production and I hope you have as much fun performing it as we will have when watching it!
