Y8 student, Summer Lyons-Ashworth travelled to Northern France last weekend to compete in the Harnes International Judo Championships, representing England in the U15s category.

Before the event, Summer was quite nervous because she was stepping up into an older age category and this would bring her up against opponents who were bigger, stronger and with potentially more competition experience than her.  Also, Summer was travelling to a foreign country to compete, which added to the apprehension.

In her final match, Summer bravely fought a French opponent that she had beaten in the earlier pools, however the judge gave the win to Summer's opponent.

The outcome was that Summer WON THE SILVER MEDAL!  How absolutely fantastic!

Summer has proved that she has the ability to win a major medal amongst extremely strong competition, and the strength of character to continue getting better and stronger within the sport that she loves.  She has arrived home and is full of war wounds ... sore knuckles, legs and neck.....but she's fully enjoyed every minute of it and cannot wait to go again.

CONGRATULATIONS SUMMER!  We are all very proud of you!
