Year 7 Bring History to Life with Battle of Hastings Re-Enactment
This week, our Year 7 students stepped back in time to 1066 as part of their History studies, re-enacting the famous Battle of Hastings on the school yard. The event brought energy, creativity, and a deeper understanding of one of the most significant battles in British history.
With homemade shields, banners, and plenty of enthusiasm, students took on the roles of Normans and Anglo-Saxons, led by their respective “commanders” – William of Normandy and King Harold. The re-enactment allowed students to explore key battle tactics, understand the causes and consequences of the conflict, and experience the drama of the battlefield in a fun and memorable way.
History teacher Mr. White said, “The re-enactment is always a highlight of the Year 7 curriculum. It helps students actively engage with the topic and understand the importance of the battle in shaping the future of England.”
Despite a few “dramatic” defeats and plenty of laughter, the activity offered a valuable learning experience, and it was fantastic to see so many students fully immersed in the moment.
Well done, Year 7 – history really came alive this week!
