Last week our Y9 rugby team played against the Deanery in the semi-final of the Wigan and Leigh cup. The team have only played the Deanery once previously, back in year 7 and it resulted in a loss! So the lads knew it was going to be a tough game to get past them and be involved in the final.

The team made a strong start and were ahead 12 - 0 at half-time.  However, we allowed the Deanery team to spend some periods of time in our half, resulting in them breaking through our defence.  This gave the Deanery the chance to score a try and get a conversion.  The final score was SEA 18 - Deanery 6.

Special mentions to Kian W, Adam K, Noah R and Max S who all represented the school's football team at 2pm, then the rugby team at 3:30pm!  The next step of this tournament…our old enemy St Peter’s in the final. With the lads proving they aren’t unbeatable in the last meeting at a 9-a-side competition…this game is sure to be an interesting one!

Congratulations to the team - they are an absolute pleasure to coach on the rugby team and a credit to the school.
