Year 7 football progressed to the KO Cup Final after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over St Mary’s, following a tightly contested 0 – 0 draw.
In what was a closely fought encounter, both sides showed excellent organisation and determination, resulting in minimal clear-cut chances throughout the match. The SEA team arguably had the better of the half opportunities, but were repeatedly denied by an outstanding St Mary’s goalkeeper who kept his side firmly in the contest.
With neither team able to find a breakthrough, the game was settled by penalties. Demonstrating great composure under pressure, SEA converted all 5 of their spot kicks. The decisive moment came when goalkeeper Will Dixon produced a crucial save to deny St Mary’s third penalty, ultimately sealing a 5–3 shootout victory!!!!
This result sees the Year 7 side progress to Finals Night, where they will join the Year 8 team. Meanwhile, the Year 9 team are in action tonight, with both Year 10 boys and girls competing in their semi-finals on Wednesday.
We wish the Y7 team the very best of luck for the final! #INSPIRATIONALACTIONS!
