Congratulations to our Y9 Boys’ Football Team who won the Wigan and Leigh Schools Cup Final this week with a huge 7 – 2 win against Cansfield High School.
This capped off a long season that started in September featuring many league games, a tough semi-final and a final to remember.
The boys started the game a little nervously with Cansfield on the front foot and were unlucky not to go ahead, the game changed 10 minutes in when Adam Kaczmarek broke through in his now traditional, powerful style, rounded the goalkeeper to put us 1-0 ahead. This settled the nerves of the boys and then we started to play some good football and looked a threat every time we had the ball. With the help of Kian Walsh's outstanding long throws we went into half time leading 4-1.
After a half-time team talk the boys went out again for the 2nd half in confident spirits, the game carried on much like the first half with both sides creating chances but we took them more clinically than Cansfield who seemed shell-shocked towards the end. The SEA team overpowered them and thoroughly deserved the win, sparking joyous celebrations from the boys.
A special mention must go to the aforementioned Kian who scored a hattrick on the night and took away the man of the match award, thoroughly deserved.
This team have now gone back to back in this competition and have gone unbeaten in Wigan for the past 2 years, they are a great bunch to work with who thoroughly deserve the plaudits they will no doubt receive from pupils and staff today.
CONGRATULATIONS to all the team!! #INSPIRATIONALACTIONS
