As part of our school’s Personal Development curriculum, students in Years 7 and 8 have begun their first aid training this week.
The sessions are taking place during PE lessons and are designed to equip pupils with essential, potentially life-saving skills.
Students learn how to respond appropriately in emergency situations, including what to do if a person is unresponsive but breathing, how to perform CPR, and how to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) safely and confidently.
The training is being delivered by a representative from the British Red Cross, ensuring pupils receive expert guidance and hands-on experience.
These sessions not only build students’ confidence but also reinforce the importance of responsibility, resilience and community awareness — key elements of our Personal Development programme.
We are proud to see our young people developing skills that could one day help save a life!
After the session, students said:
“I feel much more confident now about what to do in an emergency. Before this lesson, I wouldn’t have known how to help someone who wasn’t responding, but now I know how to check if they’re breathing and how to do CPR. It feels good knowing I could actually help save someone’s life.” – Year 8 pupil
“I didn’t realise how simple CPR can be to start. Now I feel more confident that I could help someone in an emergency.” – Year 7 pupil
