Hello, I am Mihaela Kirova, many of you might be aware I am the newly appointed Head Girl.

This is the first official school blog, and I am delighted to be writing it!

This week has been a stressful one, bursting at the seams with so many exciting events that have taken place including sports day, summer show case and the Saint Peter and Paul mass. It has been a busy week for staff and senior prefects, but it has been so rewarding seeing each student flourish through these events.

This week's theme for the blog is our lovely prefect team and the fabulous senior prefects. So we have been interviewing our students all round school to find out their opinions on our team (spoiler alert we got very positive feedback!)

Our senior prefects team consists of 24 wonderful students, that were all interviewed by Mr Dumican, Miss Westwell and Mrs Doolan.

Mr Dumican said that he “felt privileged to have such fantastic students and the quality of the application were truly outstanding” Being a part of this intense interview stage I can say it was quite frightening, but it was such an amazing experience to have taken part in. However, I’m sure you’d want to hear the opinions of my fellow seniors.

We first interviewed William Turner, who said “I believe my interview went quite well, it was an interesting process, but I feel as if I can take on the role”.  I am quite certain William will do just this, as he is a reliable hardworking pupil to say the least.

The school has introduced the new role of Lead Prefect this academic year, this role entails a great deal of responsibility and independence due to supervising a significant part of school. We asked one of our Lead Prefects, Olivia, about how she felt sitting in the interview room “I had to say the interview was nerve- wracking but at the end it was worth it”.   All staff and prefects are beyond confident that Olivia will do a great job as a lead prefect and I personally would have to say nobody could fulfil the role any better than her!

The seniors and Lead Prefects are pretty great, but we simply wouldn’t be anywhere without our hardworking prefects themselves. As I walk through the hallways, and I see how the prefects are working hard to ensure that the school is running smoothly as Head Girl I am filled with so much joy and pride.

It felt right that we interview Jenson Rennox on why he felt so passionately on being a prefect he stated “it is very rewarding to help younger pupils” which was a consistent theme when interviewing many prefects. Our awesome Maddie Bibby made the beautiful point “I think being a prefect gives a sense of responsibility and a feeling of empowerment” which resonates with so many of the team.

I also feel strongly that we should get the opinions of other students within our school community. When I interviewed the younger students, I felt as if I had been transported back in time 3 years as many of them are in awe of the prefects, as I had once done.

A student said “the prefects are very respectable and good at their job, they’re good at keeping things in place”.

Hearing this made me feel a true sense of pride knowing that the current prefects are inspiring future generations of prefects, and I could happily say that our team are truly outstanding!
