The English Department is one of the largest departments in school.  In English lessons you will be taught a range of key skills that are vital for your success at school and for your continued success in higher education or in your future career.   Whatever path you choose in life, good reading, writing and speaking and listening skills will be essential.  Your English lessons will get you involved in a huge range of activities from reading and writing daft limericks to debating serious topical issues.  Also in Y7 you will be taken to visit the school library where we hope you will not only learn how to be an independent researcher, but also start to develop a love for literature, in fact we hope you will love all kinds of reading! At Key Stage 4 students follow the EDUQAS GCSE courses and will take examinations in English Language and English Literature.  There are lots of extra-curricular opportunities in English, for example the 'Cake and Classics' Group who meet several times a year to enjoy classic reads while drinking tea and eating delicious cakes or you might prefer to sharpen your reporting skills and get involved in the BBC School Reporting Team as a writer, camera man or roving reporter in front of the camera.
