A group of Y10 students attended the Salter's Festival of Chemistry at Leeds University yesterday. The students were a credit to the school throughout the day and worked extremely hard.

The students had a Q&A session with a chemist who is working on a cure for HIV, followed by a Q&A with chemists working in different fields from cosmetics to law.

The students also worked in the university laboratories to synthesis aspirin, using new techniques.  They all successfully completing the task, synthesising aspirin, with some achieving a purity of 96%.

We hope that they are now inspired to become sciences of the future - well done to:- Morgan Brooks, Khaya Mainjwa, William Turner,                            Edward Larkin, Jack Stafford, Iona Armstrong, Mihaela Kirova, Chanelle Travis
