Senior Consultant working for a global Consulting company. I am responsible for the successful delivery of small, medium and large work streams to clients to generate cost savings and improve operational processes and efficiencies. Facilitating knowledge and understanding of the key business transformation issues to help clients meet their key challenges and opportunities. Helping Government to make a difference creating common systems and approaches, enabling them to work across multiple agencies and radically transform how Public Services are delivered.
I didn't set out to become a Consultant, it was something that presented itself after a previous job. Predominantly my employment has been as a Police Officer. I joined Greater Manchester Police in 2000 and resigned in 2016 as a Sergeant. I was also a Temporary Inspector for a year. I then did a couple of managerial roles in various industries before working on a short-term contract with the NHS as a Management Consultant. This was initially only for a period of three months however I ended up staying there for 18 months. I then moved to my current role.
Advice for pupils - become involved in group discussions – it will give you confidence and also prove you have a handle on the market you want to work in. Find out about any job fairs or seminars near you, as they are also an excellent way to network. Look at your Facebook and Twitter pages from the perspective of an employer. If there is anything that shows you in a bad light, either delete it or remove the account altogether. Be proactive. Send off your CV to companies that interest you, there may only be the chance for some unpaid work to start with, but it could turn out to be a permanent position. It also shows drive, which employers love.
