I am heartbroken to hear the news of Mrs Evans’s passing. Mrs Evans taught me from year 9 through to year 11 and never did she fail to have a smile on her face or a positive bubbly energy about her. I will never forget her belief in me during my time in her class and her passion for mathematics. She was such an influential teacher for me and is someone who has continued to inspire me on my journey into my teaching career. If I can make the children I teach love learning and inspire them half as much as she did for me I will be very happy. Thank you for everything you did for me Mrs Evans, I will remember it always.

Charlotte Rowbottom (Student from 2009-2014)

Mrs Evan was an amazing form teacher to me for 3 years, she helped me with bullying and things I never told anyone about. Every morning before school I would walk into form and she would be sat there listening to music singing all dancing you name it she was always happy and always put a smile on everyone’s face she will truly be missed.

- Mia-louise Brown

It was a huge shock that I heard of the news of the sad loss of Jo. She was my 2nd in department before joining St Edmund Arrowsmith, I think at the time I said it would be a great loss to us but I could not recommend her highly enough for the job. It was clear from when I first met Jo that she was a hugely talented teacher who cared deeply about her students. This shines through from the lovely tributes I have read. I was lucky enough to work with Jo again a few years later where her determination for all to achieve was clear. She would not be happy until every student got their Grade C and even then she would have said it wasn't good enough. We met regularly at GCSE meetings and always had long chats to catch up on how are families were getting on, what was happening in our departments and issues of the day. I will miss her sense of humour and sound judgement. Jo's family meant everything to her and my prayers and thoughts are with them. Sleep well my friend.

- David Gibson

I've had Mrs Evans as my maths teacher for nearly two years. She always found ways to make lessons engaging and you could tell she genuinely cared for each of her students both academically and general well-being wise. She was someone who understood what we felt, laughed with us and wanted the best for us. Instead of being an authority who distanced herself, she made herself someone approachable to everyone. I really wish the best for her family and those close to her in such a difficult time

- Millie Mulvenna

Extremely upsetting to hear of your passing. Thank you for always supporting me as a form tutor throughout school life. Your Geordie accent was on of the reasons I now go to Newcastle University. Truly wonderful person x

- Callum Kelly

- Lauren Gaskell

I am gutted to hear about the passing of Mrs Evans. While at SEA, I was lucky enough to have Mrs Evans not just as a maths teacher, but also as a form tutor. Mrs Evens was one of the most inspirational teachers to me, Mrs Evens shown me in short time that I had potential in everything I do. I never used to like maths until I got into Mrs Evens class but I never had any work to do because I'd always finish it before everyone else. Mrs Evens has inspired me and will forever be in mind and her inspirational speeches about how I can do it and be posative. Maths when from being my worst class to one of my best classes. I am so shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic passing of Mrs Evans. She taught me for 3 years whilst I was in years 9, 10 and 11. She always had a way of brightening up a lesson and making it enjoyable - even when it was the day before our GCSE exam and we were all terrified! Without Mrs Evans dedication, passion and belief in myself and the rest of our class, we never would have passed Maths. She had such a great sense of humour and built such strong relationships with all of her pupils. I looked forward to her lessons to hear her Geordie accent and funny jokes! She was truly a lovely lady and a fantastic teacher who I will never forget. RIP Mrs Evans, I hope you know how brilliant you were. Sending condolences to all of SEA and Mrs Evans family and friends. x

Mrs Evans was my maths teacher from 2005 - 2008 and she was one of my favourite teachers in high school. Maths was always fun in her class and once a week she would treat us to sweets which were stored in a locker in the classroom. It is such a shock to hear this heartbreaking news! I remember once her daughter had helped her mark our maths books and they were covered in stickers that her daughter wanted to give us, it was so cute! My thoughts are with her family right now and her extended family of work colleagues and pupils. Mrs Evans will surely be missed by all :-( <3

I’m absolutely heart broken. Mrs Evans was one of the kindest souls I had ever met, she only taught me in year7 but she made sure I was pushing myself even if she wasn’t my teacher. Mrs Evans was the only teacher who believed in me, I struggled with my maths but she always took time out of her day to tell me that I could do it, I haven’t done my GCSE’s yet but she would have been one of the first to hear a ‘thanks for everything’ from me, she always took time to focus on knowing all of her students individually, she always came to check up on me and how I was doing when she had the chance, we love you Mrs Evans you will be missed by many x

Mrs Evans was our maths teacher from year 8. This was the first year she worked at St Edmund Arrowsmith, and she taught us for the next 4 years, until we left. She was a lovely, supportive, encouraging and dedicated teacher. She was talented and clearly enthusiastic about her job. The three of us went on to do maths at college, so clearly she had a positive influence on us and we have each gone on to earn degrees in scientific fields where this base knowledge has been invaluable and for this we are forever grateful. She will be truly missed, but never forgotten. Thank you for all your help through high school Mrs Evans, we couldn't have done it without you! Our hearts and prayers go out to your family, friends, colleagues and students.

It came to my attention that miss Evans passed away yesterday! This fetched a tear to my eye because she was a really nice teacher that always had a job for me and my friends to Do, if it was sorting out her shapes or putting chairs under the desk or was always fun and games! She was such a character to our school and will be very missed by not only me but most pupils and staff here at st Edmund arrowsmith! - Sharon Leonard

I am shocked and heartbroken to hear the recent news about the sudden passing of Mrs Evans. I was privileged to have Mrs Evans as my Form Tutor from 2007-2012 in which she was kind hearted, passionate and dedicated in supporting every pupil to be the best version of themselves. She was always there for me when times were hard, and went out of her way to offer extra support and guidance not only during my time at school, but also in the years following when I visited school, for which I will always be grateful. Mrs Evans was bubbly and charismatic and always had us laughing during Form time, but she’d also be genuine and honest in everything she did. I am devastated to hear the terrible news, and I know she will be greatly missed by all pupils who had the privilege of being taught by her or lucky to be in a Form with her, like myself. She was and will always be an incredible woman. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family, her children, her friends and her colleagues. RIP Mrs Evans x

- Shauna Duffy

Myself and both of my son’s, Tom a former pupil of Mrs Evans and Harvey who is currently in her class are all devastated at the news that we received yesterday. I met Mrs Evans many times at various parent evenings over the years and can say that I thought she was brilliant, very fair, very passionate about her subject, very funny and an inspiration to my eldest son who went on to study maths at college and university. My thoughts and prayers are now with her family, friends, colleagues and students who are all going to miss her greatly. May she rest in peace. Lynne, Tom, Harvey and family

- Lynne McGuire

Reading through the messages of condolences from past and present pupils and also the parents and carers of our children, it is very clear that this lady was quite exeptional. Eddies has lost a very special person. We are sending our thoughts and prayers to all of her family and extended family within the school community. May she rest in eternal peace. Good night and god bless Mrs Evans.

Deeply saddened to hear of Jo’s passing; a force of a woman who cared for all. My thoughts and sympathies are with her family, her team, the school and her pupils past and present.

Mrs Evans, a truly amazing woman with an absolute heart of gold. Mrs Evans would do absolutely anything for anyone and would always go out of her way for her students. Mrs Evans has always been a huge inspiration to me, she clearly had a huge passion for her job and her students. I was lucky enough to have Mrs Evans in my final year. She helped me to believe in myself, always telling me that I could do it - even though maths wasn’t my strongest subject. If it wasn’t for Mrs Evans, I would not have passed Maths, she was an incredible teacher. I remember going to her the morning of my GCSE exam and she gave me all the confidence that I needed. I can’t thank her enough for her support, love and dedication. From the bottom of my heart, thank you! I have very fond memories of being in her class of which I will always remember. It’s true, God really does take the best. Rest in peace Mrs Evans. You will be missed by so many people.

I had Mrs Evans in yr 9 and intervention in yr 11, she helped me through a tough time dealing with my exams. I hated maths, and she made it enjoyable. She was there when others wasn't in my time of need, and she was always a joy to talk too. She helped me when I struggled with math, giving me extra time to help me through my GCSE's. Honestly she was one of the main reasons I passed. She cared for all her pupils, and she was honestly one of the most loving teachers in Eddies. Not many people have a heart as big as Mrs Evans, she loved her work, the school and all the pupils. I'm glad that I was able to meet her, she really did save me from failing maths. Eddies has lost a marvellous teacher, and an amazing friend. Rest in peace Mrs Evans. Keyanna - Ex Pupil.
